That’s all I really have to say about this photoshoot. Pilates.
It must be the way forward and the future cause never before in a photoshoot have I ever been put through my paces like when I met up with the gorgeous Patricia McNaughton and Co; her boundless energy and trim physique are apparently all down to… pilates! Honestly, if a photoshoot was an Olympic sport, Patricia McNaughton would win hands down every-time!
Patricia’s husband, Mark, and I were in the same year at school at Garron Tower and I remember Mark to be a bit of a sportsman too and a dab hand at the old hurling which our school was highly acclaimed for. (In case you’ve never heard of hurling, it’s the fastest field sport on the planet where grown men chase each other with big sticks whilst trying to score points with a small, round but very, very hard ball. It’s extremely skilful, fast and physical, and not a game for the faint-hearted (i.e. anyone who plays cricket ;)). So I asked Mark was he playing much these days but Patricia quickly jumped in and told me he prefers his kip. Well, so would I if I lived in the their house, cause apparently all the running, jumping and messing about we did that day was just a normal day at the McNaughton office. (“Thanks heavens, for little girls…”)
The boys are called Albie and Ed and just like their mum, are full of beans and full of fun; stereotypical little boys who love to tumble about the house all day. Ed has the biggest, brown eyes that will most certainly make all the girls’ hearts melt and Albie, who is aged 3, is already spoken for and in love with my beautiful girl and legend, Miss Emmie Clegg also aged 3. His face lit up like a light bulb when I told him I was going to see Miss Emmie that evening. Ahhh, young love, eh?!
You’ll see from the photos, it really was a day of fun and laughter, and it was plain to see that Patricia and Mark are a couple who just really enjoy being in each other’s company and having a good laugh together. Note the first picture of just the two of them how Patricia tries to concentrate on not laughing, she even has her eyes closed she’s trying so hard. Editing the photos of just the two of them was akin to watching the outtakes of a comedy. They made me smile a lot.
A lovely couple, a fab family and a great day and I look forward to hopefully catching up with them again soon!
I hope you enjoy the images!
(I added a picture of the Anahorish Primary school at the end for a few reasons…
It was very close to the photoshoot in Bellaghy and the school is at the bottom of the road which my Aunt Pauline (my god mother) lives on. As a child, I went to my Aunt Pauline’s house every Wednesday in life. She lives on a small farm and I spent many a carefree afternoon exploring the farmland, playing with the animals, picking and scoffing a host of berries or peas freshly from the pod. It’s where my cousin Hugh taught me how to milk a goat, and their kitchen, sorry, scullery as it’s always referred to, was always awash with the scent of something baking. As I write this my mouth is watering as I remember peeling the corrugated wrapper off her freshly baked fairy cakes, and I can recall the sound of elastic bands and cellophane as it enclosed pots of heavenly, homemade jam, which-is-to-DIE-FOR. Her Christmas cake is just as delicious and her icing is always decorated with the beautiful silver balls; if you were really good, you got to help. Honestly, the rest of the world has missed out on my Aunt Pauline’s baking.
So as I took a trip down my Aunt Pauline’s (memory) lane, I pulled in and took a few pictures of the Anahorish school. I had always imagined it to be like something out of Anne of Green Gables. A proper little country school, full of flip top desks and chalkboards and handheld school bells. I took a shot of it that day in July, because I wanted to mention it had educated one of Ireland’s finest poets, Seamus Heaney, who sadly passed away last week. So I pay homage to one of Ireland’s finest…
