There’s an old saying, whatever can go wrong, will go wrong and according to Charlotte and Paul who were getting wed, it did!
It absolutely chucked it down, I mean chucked it down – their marquee got water logged, the electrics were faulty, Charlotte’s veil was faulty, the band were held up on the motorway… vases filled with water were being transported on laps for 20 mile journeys… Basically, a bit of a blooming nightmare.
Thankfully this all occurred on the day before the wedding but still, it sounds like the sort of stress that might send you over the edge on the day before your big day!
A team effort put everything right, so when I arrived in Derby the morning of the wedding, the preps were in full flow. Charlotte’s house was awash with the smell of perfume and make-up and the frocks of 5 excited ladies who were getting ready.
As the morning progressed, I realised Paul would have a large pair of shoes to fill in replacing another man in Charlotte’s life, her dad, Dave.
Earlier I spotted him calmly arranging pretty bouquets (made by Charlotte’s mum) to the end of the pews in the church.
Later I found him in the kitchen, happily making breakfast for everyone, amidst all the hustle and bustle of the bride and all her maids.
And 40 minutes before the wedding, he stepped into the living room dressed in his wedding attire – a canary yellow suit, beautifully adorned with lilac flowers.
I’m not joking when I say he nearly gave his poor wife a coronary. Her eyes filled up with tears of utter disbelief, no doubt ruing the day she let him go shopping alone for his wedding outfit!
The suit however was a practical joke and after resuscitating his poor wife, he got changed into his ‘real’ suit (booooo!) ready to fulfil one of the most important duties a father has.
What a dad!
As for Charlotte, she looked simply amazing. She had chosen a gorgeous hand stitched lace gown which was coupled with a classically chic 1950s hairup, to complete the look.
Both her and Paul beamed all day and a potential disaster from the day before, ended up to be a pretty perfect day indeed, with a rainbow making a special appearance just for the bride!
It was a fabulous day and I wish them both all the happiness in the world!
